SLEEP WITHOUT

California, girl you had a good ride
Hot days when you could never catch a cold breeze
Santa Ana’s blowin right across the red lines
They put a freeway through your front yard slowly

Glamorous and ignorant’s a sad dance
Angry faces on Rodeo screamin’, eyes wide
Down Exposition, sun settin’ rather fast
The last gasp desperation of their white pride

Yeah, well it was one of those days
Thinking how we still so far
Mulholland with the window rolled down
Take a look at how we fell so hard
“The coast is lookin’ better”, she says
Let’s get away because the cops are crazy
I love my city though she can be cruel, but she could never fall asleep without her boyfriend

Mid-city but you feel a whole state away
And all the ghosts of ’92 are in the street signs
The pretty neighborhoods where they used to stay away
So out of reach now there’s a Tesla under street lights

Tent city everywhere and all around
Roll up your window, hit the gas, and look the other way
All the things you loved about it quickly coming down
I’m gonna stick it out, you know I’ll never run away
I’ve gotta see it through

Yeah, well it was one of those days
Thinking how we still so far
Up in the canyon with the window rolled down
Take a look at how we fell so hard
“The coast is lookin’ better”, she says
Let’s get away because the cops are crazy
I love my city though she can be cruel, but she could never fall asleep without her boyfriend

Drivin’ on the freeway, with the headlights low
And you be listenin’ to what Sly say, “there’s a riot goin’ on”
Just drivin’ on the freeway, with the headlights low

I love my city though she can be cruel, but she could never run away without her boyfriend

 MAGIC

Every day’s an open door
Every day is like the one before
If you could change it all, would you even try?
The faces walk on by
I see your anger, there’s so much to fight
If only we could find a little piece of mind

But I always thought that we’d be friends
Some day, Sunday, meet again
And I always thought we’d work it out
Is this the end you’ve dreamed about?

Walking down the street, feelin’ kinda magic
Tension and defeat, everyone is tragic
She just loves the beat, if you can imagine
It’s wearin’ me down, me down

When I lay my head to sleep
When I close my eyes they’re coming after me
I know they’re make believe, still they bring me down
The voices whisper low
Terrible secrets I don’t need to know
If we forget the past, do we repeat the show?

 WITH ALL SHE KNEW

She says she’ll never dance again, how could she now with all she knew?
It’s just as if she woke from sleep to find a world so hard and cruel
No fault of hers for past mistakes, the things she saw but looked right past
She says she’ll never dance again, it’s not the first, it’s not the last

I’m just so in love with you

They said they’d never love again, how could they now with all they knew?
When disappointments crash like waves upon your head, you think you’re through
Come up for air and catch your breath, chest is heaving, your heart beats fast
They said they’d never love again, it’s not the first, it’s not the last

I’m just so in love with you

THE PAST MAY NOT BE THROUGH WITH YOU

I said I’ll never abandon you, in life…with no protection at all
I’m busy doing the best I can, even though I know it’s never my call
The sun’s setting so early now, and the smoke from fire blacks out the skies
Happy days when my privilege shows, and my smile fades, along with the lies

But when the conversation turns in the night
And we begin to talk about what is right
You may be through with the past, but, the past may not be through with you

Don’t be afraid, open your eyes wide
This isn’t a dream, this is real life. Ahh-ah

A vicious vision of America. Ahh-ahh
Is this a vision of America, anymore?
Is this the vision of America - you want?

It’s getting harder to hold my head, and the fear is overwhelming and blind
I’ve not so into conspiracies, now the truth is getting harder to find
Love is not a commodity that we trade in during turbulent times
My heart’s been broken so many ways
So what’s the risk in laying love on the line?

A year that feels like months that never will end
Without the touch of all your lovers and friends
You may be through with the past, but the past may not be through with you.

It starts with a whisper, and not with a bang
And ends with an, ahhhh

A missing vision for America, she’s still young
A wish for vision in America, loves her guns
I miss the vision of America, we love

 ONLY

The stars aligned and shined, when everything was beautiful
I grab a hold so tight, the feeling’s almost chemical
This fleeting life’s design, the love you give is critical
But pain’s a mark of time, enough to make you cynical

I whisper I love you, with your hand wrapped in mine
I whisper I love you, will these things pass in time?

Close your eyes, follow me, only you can set me free, only
Build a house, by the sea, only you can set me free, only you, only
Close your eyes, follow me, only you can set me free, only
Build a house, by the sea, only you can set me free, only you, only

Your hand inside of mine, tracing shapes I’ve never known
The look that’s in your eyes, of promises a lot like home
You bite your lip and smile, I hold my breath and take a chance
You’re with me all the while, forever chasing new romance

 SETTING SON

I walk along such a narrow road
Psychic wars from the seeds they’ve sewn
Your enemy could be your oldest friend
But without a bridge between, tell me where does it end?
Let it bleed. We all want a version of truth

Borrowing against your future pain
You lose the moment and there’s nothing to gain
Divided times and a deep fake soul, but without a shared reality, then where do we go?
Who will lead? My outrage is an inversion of you

Shadows call, but we’re busy convincing ourselves
Battles fall, toy soldiers back on the shelf

I navigate the feelings every day
Recalibrate the normal, hope it will change
But hope is rationed off along with the norms
It’s like a battle, will we weather the storms?
Saying please! And something vague about the freedom to choose

There ain’t no sacrifice we’re willing to share
Feelin’ persecuted, when was it fair?
Don’t wanna hear about your rights anymore
Can’t even say our lives they matter, so your tears are a bore
A disease, born lucky but you’re learning to lose.
As they cosplay civil war, to burn the whole world down

Shadows call, the secrets we keep to ourself
Battles fall, the fight that you seek’s in yourself
Aren’t you tired of playing yourself?

And if the lord says what you done? You better tell ‘em I’m the seventh son.
And if the lord said, what you done? You better tell ‘em I’m the seventh son.

 BREATHE

Thinking back to brighter days, and I miss human touch
Before the world stood still, and everything was too much
No matter what I say to you, it feels as if it can’t be enough
Still I’ll open up my mouth, and hope something true will come through.

Forget tomorrow. Forget yesterday
No time for your sorrow. No time to delay

Cause it’s the song from a prom that never happened
A song from a wedding that was never was
The song that you sing to yourself, curled up in a ball

Time don’t mind, she waits for everyone
No time don’t mind, she waits for none, at all
Time don’t mind, she waits for everyone
No time don’t mind, she waits for none

You’re wrestling with apathy. It’s hard enough to make your bed
But you’re not powerless you’re only scared. The tools of the masters are dead
It’s a struggle just for peace of mind. And anger’s taken everyone
I promise love will make it through, but hold on, the fight’s just begun

Breathe into light, breathe, sleep tonight. Breathe into light, breathe, sleep tonight.
Breathe into light, breathe, sleep tonight. Breathe into light, breathe, sleep tonight.

 WHEN THE SKY

You can’t just wish it all away. You made your bed, now you gotta sleep
Her spirit’s broken for today. Your tongue is sharp and the cut is deep
Despite the things you try and say. She feels so low, cause you brought her down
There’s gotta be a better way. You say goodnight, it’s a mess for now. Mess for now, goodnight

I never wanna see you sad. And I don’t want you to feel so small
You never signed up for a drag. You never hurt anyone at all

So then why is I hurt the ones I love? I guess I’m not the easiest around
Sorry’s only good if you do better, cause if not it’s such a hollow sound
I know I'm a bastard, try not to do it again

Raindrops fall like heaven’s glitter from the skies
If you close your eyes. I promise you will miss a love of a lifetime
When I’m lost in sorrow, and nothing’s going right
Would you hold me tight? And whisper, “love, don’t miss the chance of a lifetime again”

And if it was your final day. Would you have got what you need from life?
Not what you want, but what you gave. And did you take any chances?

It’s never promised anyway. It’s only borrowed, a lease to try
You cannot buy, you cannot save. And sadly no second chances

But then I get deep inside of my head, and overblow the things that start out small
Why do I get so wound up, over the things I can’t control at all?
Is life moving faster? And will we meet-up again?

Raindrops fall like heaven’s glitter from the skies. If you close your eyes
I promise you will miss a love of a lifetime
When I’m lost in sorrow, and nothing’s going right
Would you hold me tight? And whisper, “love, don’t miss the chance of a lifetime again”

When it all comes down, and happening, what saves your soul and saves your ass is one thing
Well, write it all down, don’t leave it out, hold on tight, we’ll work it out, I promise you
I’ll just bite my fears and wipe my tears, hold you close in love my dear, I need you, I need you. My heart is true
